Spring 2020 Update

VISITING THE PARK

Following the COVID 19-related county-wide Stay Home order we’ve seen an abundance of new and returning visitors to West 11th Street Park. If you’re among those who are happy to stretch your legs, get out of the confines of your home, and explore nature at the park, we ask that you please keep a few things in mind for the safety of all of those enjoying our wonderful sanctuary. When visiting the Park to walk the trails, please consider traveling in a clockwise direction to help ease efforts for social distancing. At this time, more than ever, unleashed dogs present challenges in the park. Please adhere to the City of Houston Ordinance that requires all dogs be leashed in public parks, and clean up after your pet.

Flowers and visiting butterflies change as the seasons pass, so be sure to visit our Park and it’s plantings often.

INTRODUCTIONS & FAREWELLS

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Ann Ratcliff for her long time dedication as a member of the board of Friends of West 11th Street Park and to former organization President Helen Shumway for her guidance and dedication throughout the years! While we’re sad to see these two devoted volunteers step down from their posts with the organization we are excited to welcome the newly elected President James (Jim) Chambers

Jim is an established investment advisor and Certified Financial Planner who lives nearby at the Park at White Oak where he served on the homeowners association board for 15 years, six as president. A native Houstonian and long-time advocate of West 11th Street Park, Jim has spent countless hours over the past 25 years visiting the park since before it’s official beginnings as a City of Houston property.

Jim has wholeheartedly jumped into his new position with the organization with great enthusiasm and is currently spearheading efforts to replace our well-worn Wireless Wilderness Tour signage along with other improvements. Of his newly elected position, Jim said, “my sincere interest in serving the park is to protect it as a reserve and improve where needed to be an asset to the entire community.”

Friends of West 11th Street Park is also honored to welcome Peter Davies to the board of directors. TMCC members will know Pete, a longtime Timbergrove Manor resident, from his many years serving as Secretary of TMCC. Pete has worked for the Harris County Engineering Department since 1991 and brings his decades of experience designing park trails, bridges, and more to his volunteer work with Friends of West 11th Street Park.
