Join a West 11th Street Park Bird Walk

Submitted by Laura Bradham, President, Friends of The Lorraine Cherry Nature Preserve

Bird Walks in the Forest have started at TLCNP! You are invited to join us every Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. and the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. (weather permitting) to explore our park and learn about the birds among us. Every first Thursday of the month, our Beak of the Month will be revealed. The Beaks of the Month to date have been:

  • May: White Winged Dove

  • June: Blue Jay

  • July: Purple Martin

Each month, check out the Observation Board on the East side of the park to see what’s been seen lately and learn about the Beak of the Month. I am truly enjoying meeting my neighbors weekly in our wonderful forest.

Volunteer at the Park

The Board of the Friends of West 11th Street Park is seeking to build a volunteer base. I’ve met many of you in the park that are passionate about it for one reason or another. Have you ever thought about volunteering some of your time for your passion?

There are several ways you can volunteer—a one time, one day commitment, a semi-occasional commitment, or even a monthly or weekly commitment. Some of you have been watching the park for years and you know where past bird nests have been as well as present ones. Some of you have seen box turtles, or know what each and every tree or plant is called. Some of you love the butterflies and bugs of the forest, and some of you admire the wildflower gardens. I’ve even met a couple of you who are still regularly seeing the bunnies at the park. Whatever your passion or time availability, there is a volunteer opportunity for you!

How can you get connected, you ask? Well, I’ve created a short, easy to fill out google form so that you can let me know how much you’d like to volunteer and what your areas of interest are.

When I get your form, I can connect you to the person that heads up your area of interest for the park. That person will contact you and you will be connected! It’s easy!

We are excited to start building a volunteer base and are looking forward to getting to know you! Thank you and I hope to see you at the next Bird Walk in the Forest.
